Camping Nerves

Getting ready to go on a camping trip for about six days. My DH wants to travel about 800 miles away to sit in a tent and do some camping in our older age. It would be almost ok, but we have two dogs that have been pampered and have never traveled anywhere. So this will be a first for all of us. Really, I am looking forward to this adventure. Fay

It turned out that we didn't have a hurricane afterall. We had a tropical storm (Fay) and had to sit in the closet for a couple tornado's but only ended up with some water blowing in through a window and the carpet got wet. The electric was off for a couple of days, but everything is back to normal now. That's Life!

Hurricane Fay

Since I live in Florida, I am waiting to see what Hurricane Fay will do today. So far we haven't had any bad effects. Just a lot of wind, 35 mile per hour, and rain. The weather radio woke us up at 5:30 am for a tornado watch. They are all around us. We'll see what happens later on today. The dogs went back to bed. When the weather gets really bad, Prince crawls under the bed until all is clear. That's Life!

Sprinkle Parsley On Food

I am now on a parsley kick now. Most people use the leaves of this plant in soups and as a garnish for different foods. I do that too, but I also just sprinkle it on the food when I eat. The smell isn't strong like other herbs and the taste isn't strong either, so it doesn't over power the food flavor. I know that parsley is good for you and I read somewhere that it is good for the kidneys because it is a natural diuretic. It also fights cancer, because the cancer can't grow when there is parsley present. Whether it is true or not, I'm eating it! That's Life!

Insurance Companies

Did you know this? Most insurance companies claim that health usually improves after retirement. If you are forced to retire because of health problems, retirement isn't necessarily going to make you better. But if retirement brings a release from stress and pressures, chances are that you may feel years younger in just a few weeks. That's Life!

Wilderness Reading

Just got back from a little wilderness camping trip with my hubby. We went to Kentucky, way back in the woods and seemed to go back in time for a little while. Haven't been on a vacation for many years, so this was long over due. It was great! I packed up a few books that I have been meaning to read for a year now. I love to read, but never seem to have time to sit down and do just that.

The book I am reading now is called, SANTA FE WOMAN, by Gilbert Morris. It is about a well to do family, living in Arkansas, who loses everything during the depression. Then they decide to start a new business and they start a wagon train, as well as a new life and venture out to New Mexico. It is a very detailed and exciting book.

If you are interested in this book or any other type, you can search for what you like to read in the Amazon search engine on this page. That's Life!

Odd Dishes

Today, as I had my morning cup of tea , I realized that I have a lot of odd cups as well as odds and end dishes. Some times it may not be acceptable to set your table with unmatched china, but it is perfectly all right to use your odd pieces for picnics, camping, and office lunches. Keep place settings made up of leftover dishes in the picnic hamper, a box in the trunk of the car, and the bottom drawer of your desk. Then when you broil your burgers, grab a quick lunch in the office, or stop for fast food on the highway, you'll be able to eat in style. Just a little recycle thought. That's Life!

Clutter Disease

Do you have the cutter disease? Yes, that is exactly what it is, a disease. I have it and didn't know it until today. It all started this morning. I did a load of wash and wanted to put the folded towels in the linen closet and no room. Well, they used to fit in there. I pushed, shoved, moved things over and they still didn't fit. So I unloaded a shelf and piled it on my bed. Now the bed was full and I mean full! Then it hit me, I am a clutter freak, I have a clutter disease! I found things that I haven't seen in years and I found things that I didn't even know what they were. After looking over the situation and checking out all the items, I put everything back a little neater this time and saved it for another day. Yep, I do have the clutter disease. That's Life!

Blueberries Lower Cholesterol

Today when the mail came, I had a very nice surprise! It was a blueberry surprise. I have family that lives in Michigan and it is blueberry season now. So I was lucky enough to get some in the mail today. Blueberries lower your cholesterol, so they are good for your heart. Scientists are buzzing about its amazing cancer-fighting and cholesterol-lowering ability. It’s a powerful antioxidant found in blueberries. I read somewhere that they are good for your eyes too. Have a blueberry dessert and get healthy! That's Life!

Gas Today

I remember when gas prices were doable! I had a small Hyundai. The best little car ever! I had it for 15 years and never had any trouble with it, nor did I ever have to replace parts, except the muffler.Needless to say this was my favorite car. I filled it with gas for $5.00 and was good for 120 miles or so. Ah, those were the days! That's Life!

Making Some Money

Blogging is quite popular these days, I am finding out. I heard about it maybe one year ago. Had no clue as to what it was about. It was like another language to me. Now you see blog websites everywhere, and it's talked about everywhere.

Well, I started to take the subject of blogging seriously when I read about it on, WAHM.com Forum :Bloggers. The post was made by razz, and she talked about how she love blogging and told how anyone could do it and talked about how easy it is to make money talking about something that you like to do. The more I read all the posts about blogging, the more I got excited about it and wanted to give it a try.

So I started a free blog online, (That's Life!), start writing whatever I want to blog about. I have made many new friends from this experience and learned so many new things. That's Life!

Caffeine

Trying to cut down on caffeine is not as easy as you may think. I am starting out my day with a cup of tea now instead of coffee. Tea has half as much caffeine in it as coffee does. After I got used to it, it works for me. Here are some facts about caffeine:

* A cup of coffee cannot help sober up a person who has been drinking.

* Non-cola is not necessarily caffeine free. Read the ingredient list if you are trying to cut down.

* Caffeine is an ingredient in more than 1,000 over-the-counter medications and prescription drugs.

* One cup of drip coffee is 219mg. Instant = 96mg.

* One cup of tea = 50mg.

* Soft drinks (12oz.) = 50mg.

* Weight loss aids =165mg.
Diuretic is 165mg.
Alertness tablets = 150mg.
Analgesic/pain relief tablets = 40mg.
Cold/allergy remedies = 25mg.

Plan A Trip To Germany

Try something new, by planning a trip to Germany. Millions of visitors visit tourist attractions in Germany every year. Enjoy the breathtaking landscapes and natural beauty of the country. Here is a list of some of the top attractions that are considered to be the most popular sights.

The Black Forest

The Black Forest is a secluded pine woods, located in the southwestern part of Germany. The true Black Forest is where the cuckoo clocks get their fame. From dark shadows of the fir and pine trees that grow very thick there, in the forest, is where it gets the name Black Forest. This area is also famous for activities such as, hiking, camping, and some skiing. Budget travelers can find great deals on lodging in the towns around the Black Forest.

The Frisian Islands

These islands actually span along the coastlines of three countries: Germany, Denmark, and The Netherlands. The pristine beaches have panoramic views, especially popular with the jet-set.

Oktoberfest

Oktoberfest held in Munich and has millions of visitors every year. Munich is the home of beer. It is a worldwide celebration of Bavarian beer in one town, that lasts several weeks. Events include, parades, beer tents, music features, feasts of authentic German cuisine, and exhibits.

City of Berlin

Berlin is the country’s capital and is the largest city. Berlin has grown into a modern city. But there are still landmarks to remind visitors of the strains that history has put on the city.

Lake Constance

Lake Constance is another famous sight to see. It lies between Germany, Austria, and Switzerland and is fed by the Rhine River, one of the longest in Europe.

These are just some of the sights to see when you plan a trip to Germany.

This is what I am reading now. I found it on Amazon. If you care to search on Amazon, type in something of interest to you in the search box on the left side of this site. It is one of the best books about crystals, that I have ever read. It really explains things in a way that I can understand without thinking too much. I love stones, all stones and try to read about them as often as I can. That's Life!

Homemade Ketchup

Today I had planned to eat a hotdog for lunch, with maybe a salad. Well, guess what! No ketchup! So I decided to try to make some. Here is what I did. I combined all of these ingredients together and put it on my hot dog. You know, it wasn't bad.

6 oz. no-salt-added tomato paste
1/3 cup cider vinegar
3/4 tsp. dry mustard
3/4 tsp. onion powder
1/4 tsp. paprika
1 dash of ground red pepper

Remember When

Remember when you were a kid and you hated vegetables? I do and now I don't, hate veggies that is. Today, I made a good vegetable soup.

Light colored lettuce, radishes, celery, cucumber, zucchini, and yellow squash provide less fiber and fewer vitamins and minerals than some other vegetables. But the caloric content of these vegetables is low. and many people enjoy their mild tastes. In combination with other foods and vegetables, they could prove to be a very healthful addition to your diet.

Veggies that are very high in nutrients include artichokes, asparagus, beets, bell peppers, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, cooking greens and dark salad greens, corn, eggplant, fennel, green beans, mushrooms, parsnips, peas, potatoes, tomatoes, turnips, rutabagas, and winter squash.

Achieve Anything

Are you a feng shui thinker? I thought this little idea was interesting. Supposedly you can achieve anything with an inspiring quote. Simply posting some words of wisdom in on a paper on your fridge will dramatically reinforce and resolve your endeavor, say feng shui experts. A quick read before reaching for a snack will help you find the mental strength to work through what's worrying you or make sticking to that new diet a snap.I wonder? That's Life!

Just Something

Today I had a taste for something with noodles. I tried to put it out of my mind, but the more I thought about it the more I wanted it. There are so many different kinds of noodles on the market today. First I seriously thought about those corkscrew noodles, they are good in different dishes, but I finally settled on, belly button noodles. You know the kind, they sort of look round like an intertube, only small and filled with something. These were filled with cheese. You find them in the frozen food section of the supermarket. Mmmm, makes my mouth water just thinking about it.

While the noodles were cooking, I chopped up a small onion and mixed it with some chopped tomatoes. When the noodles were done, I mixed it all together and sprinkled a little parmesan cheese on top and had a good meal.

A Little Salad Trick To Help Trim

This is just a little time saving salad trick that can help trim the waistline. When tossing together a salad, skip the labor of carefully chopping veggies into tiny bits. Instead chop veggies into big chunks. The larger pieces take longer to chew, slowing your eating down, so you will fill up on less and effortlessly get rid of some pounds. That's Life!

When Is Picnic Time

When is picnic time in Florida? I have lived here for eight years now and still can't figure out how to get in the groove of things. We moved here from Indiana. I was used to working in the yard, gardening and having picnics all of the time. Love being outside. But in Florida, the gardens burn up and it is too hot and humid to enjoy the outdoors. I don't know how to do outside things in Florida. So when I'm really missing the northern lifestyle, I just get out my little picture album and start feeling better. Oh well, guess I'll figure it out someday. That's Life!

Fourth Of July

Happy 4th of July everybody! This will be a nice evening to watch fireworks, no rain clouds in sight. Almost every year,on the 4th of July, it rains where we live. But tonight we will enjoy the colored sky, because people are shooting off fireworks in every direction around our house. We don't even have to leave the yard. The dog hides under the bed, poor thing. So I have to come in and console him every now and then. My big protector! That's Life!

Safe Dog Food

Sometimes I pamper my dogs by making treats for them. Most of the time I make their dog food.

Have you ever thought about making your own dog food? I have and it is quite easy. After all of the dog food recalls not so long ago, pet owners were at a loss for what to do. More and more people are turning to making their own dog food and treats.

Making your own dog food requires a simple mix of meat, vegetables and starches. Instructions and more information about how to make homemade dog food as well as many treats can be found at: http://www.webspawner.com/users/Pici/

Here is one example of one of the doggie treats that I make.

Pet Brownies
About one pound of calves liver
1 cup flour and 1/2 cup cornmeal
1 TB garlic powder
Place all ingredients in food processor and blend well. Pour onto a cookie sheet lined with aluminum foil which has been greased. Press the mix flat (it will be thick and somewhat stiff.) Bake for 20 minutes at 350 degrees. Do not overbake or they will be crumbly. They are done when brown. If they are pink they are not quite done.

Pain

It rained all night. This morning I woke up all fuzzy headed and full of aches and pain. What a mess I was and my dh wasn't much better. As he drank his coffee and I drank my tea this morning, we just sort of sat there in a daze, thinking about how we didn't want to go to work today. I work at home on the pc, so it wasn't a problem for me, and he struggled off to his job reluctantly. This is the rainy season where I live, so we are thinking about aches and pain a lot. So now I am working on my other blog about pain and disease. You can check it out at: http://diseaseandpain.blogspot.com/ That's Life!

Potential Problem

Today my dog is scratching a lot and I want to avoid any potential skin problems. He had a bubble bath and I wondering if it is the soap that is the problem. I know that hair loss, excessive scratching and reddening of the skin are all symptoms of potential skin problems that need to be addressed. Maybe I should change the flea drops. Have to figure this out. That's Life!

I am a music lover and usually listening to it wherever I go. Mostly you will hear country or classical when you are around my house. You can too, because I just downloaded clips to my website. That's Life!

Using Sunscreen

When it comes to using sunscreen, beware! Increased risk of skin cancer can be the result of a bad sunburn. Your skin can be damaged by too much sun. Try limiting the time you spend in the sun and use sunscreen. Helpful tips to help protect yourself from sun rays include:

1. Anytime you go outside for 20 minutes or more, use sunscreen.

2. Start 15 to 30 minutes before you go outside to apply sunscreen.

3. The sun protection factor should be at least 30, and should be a broad spectrum for blocking ultraviolet rays.

4. Sunscreen should be applied every two hours, even on cloudy days and after swimming. Be sure to apply it to every exposed area of the body.

A Reader

Today is a day for relaxing and just plain being lazy. It is gloomy and has been pouring down rain all day. My DH is on one side of the living room sitting in his favorite chair, curled up with one of his books. A western, I think. I have been sitting on the other side of the room, in the my easy chair with my feet up, with my bowl of popcorn and one of my favorite books by Janette Oke. We are avid readers. I read everything that I can get my hands on as well as on the Internet. I saw a pretty nifty thing on Amazon.com the other day. It was called a, Amazon Kindle wireless, portable reading device. It gave you access to 130,000 items. Ah, technology. That's Life!

Bath Day

Today is bath day for my dogs. It isn't a hard chore, just takes patience and time, as all of you dog lovers are aware of. I am always looking and trying out new products on my dogs. Living in a tropical climate means that I am constantly fighting fleas and ticks. I used to use a product that came from the Vet and it worked pretty good for about one month. A few months ago I found a new product that is natural and made with spices. It smells like cloves and makes the house smell good, like Christmas time. Anyway, it works for 3 months and isn't too expensive either. While I was surfing around on the net trying to find something new, I found this site that has everything that you can imagine. Dreamers

Dreams can be life savers on dull days. One dream that my DH and I agree on is to have a motorhome. We would like to try living in it for a couple of years to save money. Don't know how yet, but I think it will happen within the next year. Lots of people are making it happen due to the high costs of living and the freedom factor. It doesn't hurt to dream. Maybe it will come true. That's Life!

It Happens

Don't know what is going on with my PC today, but something is happening. This morning it kept rebooting. Then when everything finally settled down and was working, it froze up. So that happened about 5 times. After a morning of pure frustration, I called it a few names (after all, it has a mind of its own, so I have the same right) and left the room for a while. This afternoon I got brave enough to tackle it again. It would only come on in safe mode, I don't know how many times that happened. Ok, one last try, I turned it over to Norton WinDoctor. Guess what? My PC works now. I am one happy camper. Thats Life!

I have been working at home, as an on-line digital proofreader for a little over two years. Now I got word that the job has ended. Really liked the job too.
